THERE was barking mad fun and games at Rascals Dog Grooming Studio last month as they celebrated 15 years of business.
Friday, September 15 was the special occasion for the popular business at 87 Market Street, Stalybridge, which was launched in 2002 by Sue Waring and her mum Barbara.
To celebrate the anniversary, they created a lively window display and handed out goodie bags and chocolate cakes to their customers and pooches.
There was also a host of games and competitions, including ‘guess how many bones in the hat’ and taking silly photos of the dogs wearing humorous props and slogans.
Their raffle and competitions are until running until October 15 to raise money for a couple of local animal charities – find out more on their Facebook page.
Look out for more fun at Christmas when the staff dress up and all dogs can be treated to Christmas themed shampoo, dog perfume and topped off with a Christmas bow.
Lorna McInnes, who works at the studio with Sue, Louise Stringer and part-time Sarah Taylor, said they were delighted to celebrate the birthday with their valued customers and pets.
She reflected: “The studio was started by Sue with just her mum helping to wash the dogs before Sue clipped them.
“As she got busier she enlisted our other groomer Louise, who used to bring her Springer Matty in. Sue trained Louise on the job so her mum could enjoy her retirement.
“For years I’d walked past the shop looking in and want to be part of it. Luckily one day a sign was up looking for help – and I’m still there after 11 years!
“Between us we have a Yorkshire Terrier, two toy poodles and three miniature pinschers, and they all come for a visit now and then.”
She added: “We have had many dogs through our doors and when we hear of our old timers passing it’s always a sad day.
“You grow close to them and their owners when you see them every six weeks. We have made some good friends with our customers.”
The grooming studio offers bathing, grooming, nail cutting and tidy ups, as well as selling dog tags and grooming items. Prices start at £19, depending on the size of the dog.
They can use special shampoos for dogs with skin troubles and will happily cut the dogs in any style asked if possible.
They use hoists on the dogs, or cages unless they aren’t getting along with others or are a danger to themselves.
