AS part of its commitment to increasing the awareness and development of Forest Schools, Millbrook Primary is hosting a course for potential new practitioners.
The Bank Road school is a Forest Schools’ accredited leadership centre and runs courses to train other educators who are interested in running their own Forest School sessions.
The latest course, a Level 3 OCN Forest School Certification, takes place at Millbrook from October 16-20.
Participants will learn a wide range of practical skills including: listening, movement, touch and sight.
They will be taught how to teach the safe use of tools while uses for various types of wood and conservation issues will form a part of the learning.
After completing the course applicants will also be required to complete further compulsory aspects of the course including: planning and implementing Forest School session for a group of children or young people, writing a report based on your findings and being practically assessed and creating a staff handbook.
Forest School offers all learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.
