Three cheers for Bridge Beers Micro: pub named in CAMRA’s 2018 guide

DAVID Bridge has raised his glass in celebration after Bridge Beers has been named in CAMRA’S 2018 Good Beer Guide.

It means the micro pub on Melbourne Street, Stalybridge, is among the top 4,500 watering holes in the country.

David with the Good Beer Guide 2018

David, who only set up Bridge Beers 19 months ago, said: “I am proud to have been named in the Good Beer Guide.

“CAMRA drop in unexpectedly so to find out I was in the guide was very pleasing,” he explained.

How David explained how he came to set up the micro pub.

He explained: “It is quite a convoluted story. I was fed up in my job in IT and looking for something new.

“I love real ale, but did not want to run a traditional pub.

“I liked the idea of a micro pub and having real ale on the high street.”

David has room for eight beers, though usually has four on tap.

And of the changing landscape of the brewing industry with traditional pubs on the decline, David says this niche market is increasing in popularity.

He continued: “There is a surge in micro pubs whereas there has been a demise of the traditional pub.

“All our beers are from locally sourced micro breweries, including Ticketybrew, from Stalybridge, two from Greenfield and one from Mossley.”

David is delighted with how his business has taken off.

He said: “I think that is down to a different scale of economics – we are not beholden to the big breweries.

“We hit the ground running and are fortunate to be in a good place. It is important to be on the high street.”
