Millbrook ‘explorers’ discover new art and music knowledge

A GROUP of youngsters from Millbrook Primary School have been broadening their educational horizons through art and music.

And they have been rewarded for their studies with a red carpet opening to a new school week in front of VIP visitors.

Nearly 30 Year 5 pupils received their EXPLORE Arts Awards certificate at a special morning assembly from Councillor Joyce Bowerman, the Mayor of Tameside, accompanied by Mayor’s consort, husband Fred Bowerman.

The project, organised by teacher Sophie Wright, took place when the children were in Year 4 and involved pupils visiting various organisations in Tameside and logging their experiences.

Each one produced an individual piece of work based on their studies and all were then presented in a book to the rest of the class. Subjects ranged from Anglo Saxon tapestries to classical violins.

Other guests in attendance were: Councillors Jackie Lane and Frank Travis plus Mandy Kinder from Tameside Cultural and Customer Services who received a tour of the Bank Road school.
