Minimal damage caused after blaze at new Summer Quays development

A BLAZE at the new Summers Quay development in Stalybridge was nowhere near as bad as it looked as smoke billowed from the apartments that are under construction.

Three fire engines from Stalybridge, Ashton and Hyde were summoned at 7.47pm on Thursday, October 26.

Greater Manchester Fire Service later revealed a small quantity of rubbish on the seventh floor had caught light.

They used one hose reel to extinguish the blaze and firefighters were in attendance for one hour with minimal damage caused.

Part of the covering protecting the building from bad weather had to be removed for firefighters to get to the blaze
