Stalybridge Celtic is building firm foundations with pan-disability teams

STALYBRIDGE Celtic Foundation has again entered the Cheshire East Ability Counts League with two adult PAN-disability football teams participating.

This will be the third season the club has taken part in the League, which runs from October to May along with a cup competition in July at Aquinas College, Stockport, and run by Stockport County Community Sports and Education Foundation and the Cheshire Football Association.

Following on from an indifferent season last time out, the two teams attended the first set of fixtures on October 17 full of confidence and enthusiasm.

Both are in the championship division of the league alongside teams representing  Stockport County, Buxton, Trafford Choices and  Pennine United.

The premiership is made up of two sides from Reddish North End, Stockport County, Manchester City Amputees and SPARC.

Stalybridge Celtic Foundation community officer Mike Smith is also a member of the Cheshire Ability Counts Committee ensuring that the club has a say in how the league is run and managed going forward.

“We also arranged a couple of friendly fixtures with FC United of Manchester prior to the league starting, to prepare the team for what lies ahead.

“We also have a married couple in the squad, Anthony and Joanne Fairhurst, which has to be a first!”
