POLICE were stationed at the Leech Street/Back Melbourne Street car park in Stalybridge day and night for 72 hours following a grave discovery.
Workmen creating a car park extension at the Aldi supermarket unearthed human remains.
Police erected a tent over the spot where the remains were found similar to ones at a murder scene.
Anthropologists and archaeologists were summoned to carry out work before the all clear was given to resume work on the car park extension.
A police statement read: “Following enquiries, it is believed the land was formally a burial ground and no crimes have taken place.
“Legal processes have been followed to remove the remains from the site.
“The site is now the responsibility of the land owners.”
