STAMFORD golf professional Mark Smith has gained one of the sport’s highest qualifications.
After two years of studying, Smith has landed the PGA Certificate of Golf Management Theory. It forms part of the PGA Director of Golf Qualification.
The course was launched in 2007 and only a small number of professionals have acquired the qualification.
Smith, who is in his 11th year at Stamford, believes it will make him better equipped moving forward in these changing times for the sport.
He explained: “For clubs to have a PGA professional is a luxury, but not a necessity, but you need managers.
“By having this qualification, clubs have both a professional and a manager.
“Most golf professionals manage their clubs, but don’t have the title that this course brings.”
Smith explained the course was done online and involved undertaking a number of projects.
