Last call for pub?

UNCERTAINTY surrounds the future of the Travellers Call pub that shut some time ago.

Uncertain future for the Travellers Call

The hostelry on Wakefield Road, Stalybridge, was put up for sale with a guide price of £250,000 guide price.

Estate agents A Wilson told the Correspondent there had been a lot of interest and one offer was pending.

When the ‘for sale’ sign disappeared, the Correspondent again contacted A Wilson for an update only to be told there had been a change of circumstances and the pub had been taken off the market by the private vendor.

The website www.closedpubs.co.uk lists 34,367 pubs that have closed.

It added 48,000 remain in England, but they are closing at a rate of four each week, the highest number since 1904 when the Compensation Act saw 10 per-cent of pubs forced to close.

  1. I was understood to believe that it was being made into flats as a someone local had bought it by his relative cousin of his

  2. I walked past yesterday and there was a couple of blokes unloading some stuff inside. I asked what it was going to be and they said it was going to be a gin bar. Seems an odd place for something like that of you ask me.
