FUTURE tenants at Summers Quay, Stalybridge, will be some of the best connected in the country thanks to new digital technology which is being installed.
The £8million private rent scheme which is due to complete in July, is one of the first residential developments in England to benefit from full fibre connectivity, giving tenants faster internet speeds at lower prices.
Approximately 11km of fibre cable will run through the building giving each of the 67 apartments, a direct connection and a wireless router ready to use on moving in.
The new technology is being provided as part of Tameside’s new digital ‘dark fibre’ network, funded by Broadband Cooperative which housing provider Jigsaw Group (previously New Charter Group) are founding members of alongside service provider Simply IP.
Residents will receive a week’s free internet service with speeds up to 50MB, with charges at £15 per month thereafter. Upgrade options will also be available.
The Simply IP service provides unlimited usage, no traffic management and no contract.
Tenants will also have free access to a dedicated Summers Quay microsite to report repairs to New Charter Homes.
Internet upload and download speeds at Summers Quay will also be the same giving tenants a faster network to stream movies and upload video content.
Steven McCrory, Network Director at Simply IP said: “Summers Quay will be the latest Simply IP residential installation where each apartment will receive business grade service and connectivity and our work delivering full fibre residential internet services in Tameside has been ground breaking for Greater Manchester.”
More than one third of apartments have already been reserved off-plan.
Showhomes will available to view during a launch event on Saturday, April 28 (11.30am-3.30pm).
Viewings can also be made on Sunday, April 29 (10am-noon) by appointment only.
