STALYBRIDGE Celtic Juniors’ second annual walking football festival raised £600 for Stalybridge charity Cancer Warriors.
Ten teams made up of club volunteers, parents of junior players and a couple of local walking football teams played in the tournament at the club’s soccer centre on Mossley Road, Ashton.
Walking football truly is a sport for all, with players aged from 16 to 72 taking part and a team of female Celtic Juniors’ volunteers playing against the men’s teams.
The tournament was eventually won after a nail-biting penalty shootout by team ‘Walking Masterclass’ made up of Celtic Junior’s team managers.
• Juniors have launched two new girls football sessions, taking place on Saturday mornings for girls in year 1, 2, 3 and 4 and Wednesday evenings for girls in year 5 and 6 at the club’s soccer school on Mossley Road.
The first few sessions have been well attended and the club is planning to enter three teams into girls’ leagues next season. Places are available and the first session is free.
