STALYBRIDGE has a new takeaway, The Chip Shop that proudly boasts to serving traditional British fish and chips.
It opened at 13 Armentieres Square less than four months ago, but already has built up a loyal customer base and more than 400 Facebook followers.
“Ninety per-cent of our customers say it is great we do traditional fish and chips as they are hard to find,” explained owner Jessica Winterbottom.
Jessica’s mother Paula, a former pub licensee, is also working full time making it a family business. The other employee is Lisa Rothwell, from Millbrook.
They have made a sizeable investment transforming the former dog grooming parlour into the takeaway that is open Monday to Saturday daily until 6.30pm and 7pm Friday. Telephone orders can be made to 0751 3265937.
Jessica, a former healthcare assistant at Stockport’s Stepping Hill Hospital, has been interested to discover the culinary habits of the Stalybridge public.
While fish and chips are obviously the main sellers, she explained battered sausage is also popular and some customers arrive specifically to buy the Irish curry or a haggis special.
Jessica added: “We have done well building up the business and virtually all the feedback we have received has been positive.”
