To remember loved ones lost to suicide, a candlelit vigil will be held in Tameside on World Suicide Prevention Day.
Organised by The Anthony Seddon Fund, the event is being held at Dukinfield Town Hall between 6:30pm & 9pm on Monday 10th September.
The event will feature stalls from organisations which support individuals with mental health issues. Some of these organisations include Healthy Minds, Tameside Armed Services Community, the Samaritans and Be Well Tameside. There will also be mini reiki treatments, refreshments and a singer.
Tameside has a higher than average suicide rate but there are numerous organisations to go to (including those listed above and The Anthony Seddon Fund) if you need urgent support.
Cllr Brenda Warrington, Executive Leader of Tameside Council, said: “We’re delighted to host this event and support the vital work being carried out by The Anthony Seddon Fund. Every life lost to suicide is a tragedy which has lasting effects on countless people and we want to show our support for those affected by it.
“Tameside Council is currently engaged in a multi-agency approach to reduce the suicide rate in the borough. This includes giving all of our front-line staff suicide prevention training, and work is on-going to boost mental wellbeing across the area.”
