A FASHIONABLE clothes shop in Stalybridge officially opened its doors in style as Coronation Street star Brooke Vincent was on hand to cut the ribbon.
Barbara Neary laid out the red carpet for her special guest, family and friends as she unveiled Dress and Tonic after a re-brand from Smart Bargains and relocation from 57 to 9 Melbourne Street.
After a six-month renovation, including laying a new floor, hanging doors and re-decorating herself, Barbara was ready to show off her venture to friends and customers.
She said: “Thank you all for coming and supporting us. It is really appreciated.”
Brooke, who plays Sophie Webster in ITV’s Coronation Street and was runner-up on Dancing On Ice earlier this year, cut the ribbon to officially declare the shop open.
“I’m local and it’s great to support local people and local businesses like this,” she said. “There’s lots of rails full of lovely clothes in here and Barbara has done a wonderful job.”
The shop’s name derives from previous occupant chemist Allwood Simpson, and Barbara has decorated it with tonic bottles and equipment she unearthed during the renovation.
Filling the shop is a large array of high street branded womenswear that is past season but in perfect condition, from blouses and tops to trousers and coats, as well as shoes, accessories and homewear.
The move has given Barbara twice as much as space as before, enabling her to expand and add menswear and underwear to her offerings.
Barbara was joined by her parents David and Jacqueline and daughter Holly Neary-King for the opening, as well as family and friends.
And she gave a special thanks to Joe, who often walks past the shop and one day stopped to give her some tools, as well as helping out with odd jobs to get the shop ready for opening.
