A FESTIVE carnival parade celebrating Tameside’s industrial heritage will be among the highlights of this year’s Christmas events.
The Tameside Christmas Celebration Event, which will include the ever-popular lantern parade, will this year take place in Denton on December 8 – paying particular homage to the local hatting industry which has close links with the town.
The borough-wide event will be a fantastic finale to all the individual Christmas celebration events and lights switch-ons taking place in Tameside’s towns during November and December.
Tameside Council Cultural Services will once again be working with locally based and internationally respected arts organisation Global Grooves on the lantern parade following a successful bid for Arts Council England funding.
This year will be extra beautiful as the lantern parade, which will take place from 6pm-7.30pm, will take a route through Victoria Park, Denton, with the whole park being lit up as a magical place to explore.
Schools, community groups and individuals can get involved and take part in workshops with professional artists to create spectacular illuminated lantern sculptures, more traditional hand carried lanterns and themed carnival and parade costumes.
All of the lantern making workshops will take place in October and November in readiness for the parade in December.
Anyone who wants to get involved should email expressing interest by email to: firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0161 342 4144.
Please bear in mind that spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Cllr Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council executive member responsible for cultural services, said:
