BUCKTON Vale Primary’s harvest festival service took on special resonance this year in the wake of the moorland fires that at one stage threatened to spread to Carrbrook village.
There was a special tribute to the firefighters after the blaze forced the school to shut for several days on safety grounds.
Firefighters were invited to the service but were unable to attend due to being on a training course.
Pupils from years five and six had made a special thank you collage they intended to present to the firefighters.
Now pupils and staff are to visit Stalybridge to present their thank you collage.
Children from year one also spent time drawing and sketching images of the fires and they, too, were displayed at the harvest service.
Cllr Adrian Pearce, who represents Stalybridge North, attended the event and praised children for their support of firefighters through their artwork.
