They recently donated 20 pop-up tents and six sleeping bags worth £1,100 to the Greystones men’s hostel in Ashton.

The money was left over from a legacy to help people in need in the borough.

St Peter’s has established close links with Greystones with church official Rob White visiting each week.

Rob explained the tents and sleeping bags will help when the hostel is full and homeless men have to camp out in the grounds.

He added St Peter’s have previously also donated tents as well as clothing and towels, pointing out some homeless man only go to Greystones to shower.

• St Peter’s holds it annual Christmas fair, its biggest fundraiser of the year, on Saturday, November 30 at the primary school between 11am-3pm.
