THE car park opposite Stalyhill Infants and Hill Top is not the only one under threat or with an uncertain future as Councillor Clive Patrick asks: “Has the council got it in for car drivers?”
He refers to Tameside Council who are about to sell a pay-and-display car park on Melbourne Street to supermarket Aldi.
Cllr Patrick also points out to two other sites in the town that have been closed or sold.
The car park at the Stocks Inn, recently had plans passed for a house while a car park on Stamford Street next to Cowdfeet Conservative Club has also been closed.
A notice attached to the railings says the site is available for contract parking from Beacon Parking Services.
The Correspondent contacted the company asking them about their plans for the site, but they did not reply before the paper went to press.
On the sale of the Melbourne Street site, a Tameside Council spokesman said: “The council are at an advanced stage of selling a plot of land, currently a pay and display car park, to a local supermarket.
“The land will remain a car park and be free for a period of parking subject to conditions from the new owners.”
