MARK Smith, director of golf and PGA professional at Stamford, has invested £8,000 in an initiative to give amateur players a big-time experience.
Mark hasdesigned and commissioned a large scoreboard that is similar to that used for professional tournaments, but which is used for club competitions.
He said: “We used the scoreboard recently for the first time for Captain’s Weekend, one of our biggest events of the year.
“It made a massive impact as everybody was able to see at a glance how everybody was faring in the competition, something that was impossible beforehand.”
While Mark designed the scoreboard it was manufactured by metal fabricator Electrica Limited, a Dukinfield design and manufacturing company run whose managing director is Stamford member Eric Nield.
It is a business venture and Mark is keen to hire out the scoreboard so he can recoup his outlay.
“There has been a lot of interest from clubs as far afield as Cornwall while one in Salisbury has asked me to design one for them,” he said.
