Historic gates at Stamford Park, Stalybridge repaired

The historic Coronation Gates at Stamford Park

THE Coronation Gates at the entrance to Stamford Park, Stalybridge, have been skilfully repaired.
The Correspondent reported in the December edition that one of the ornate stone pillars had been demolished following a road traffic collision.
There was also damage to the stone perimeter wall and railings while a nearby speed camera was also knocked over.
The gates at the junction of Stamford Street and Astley Road were cordoned off by tape to prevent the public accessing the park through that entrance.
The gates have since been restored to their former glory, with the only tell-tale sign of the accident some chipped stonework on the wall.
