OF all the weddings staged at St James’ Church, Millbrook, there has never been anything like the most recent one.
The ‘pretend wedding’ involved five-year-olds Cameron Stanley and Amelia Gordon from Millbrook Primary School.
And it was as authentic as the real thing with minister the Rev Chris Viney conducting proceedings.
It was part of the topic about weddings that the class had more learning about, especially the recent royal one involving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Teacher Vicki Paul wanted to add a touch of reality so approached Rev Viney who was up for the challenge.
He said: “I have never had a wedding like this before, but was happy to go along with it.
“It is part of the children’s social and community education and good for them to learn about weddings.
“I am sure it will be an experience they will never forget. Maybe the parents will learn as well.”
St James’ had its largest congregation since Christmas as parents, children, staff and even five members and three members of staff from Millbrook Care Home attended.
Vicki, who was the wedding organiser, added Amelia was up for being the bride, but groom Cameron needed some persuading.
The attention to detail was staggering as there was a best man, ushers and even a photographer to capture the event.
There was even confetti for when the ‘newlyweds’ left the church which afterwards also hosted a reception.
