STALYBRIDGE Town Team’s recently-formed 100 club has signed up six ex-pats now living in Portugal.
Town team chair Ray Harrison and his wife Jill were on holiday in Portugal last month when they began their recruitment drive when old friends asked what was happening in the town.
He told them about the 100 club and how proceeds are spent improving the town centre with six new hardwood planters placed in Armentieres Square.
Ray did not want to miss an opportunity to sign up the new members so he contacted his office in Stalybridge and they quickly arranged for 100 club forms to be scanned through to his hotel.
The 100 club has at present £200 of cash prizes, £80 Tesco vouchers and £80 of Candolim restaurant vouchers.
Membership is £12 per year and members are putting something back in the town from the proceeds of the 100 club.
Stalybridge Town Team, with the local councillors and other traders, are arranging the Christmas light switch on, which will be on Saturday, November 17.
There a full itinerary of fun throughout the day, including the opening of the artisan market in the Civic Hall, children’s rides and more.
The town team is always looking for volunteers. They carry out regular monthly clean ups in the town centre.
