Businesswoman Wendy Mackie has spent £60,000 refurbishing the former Indian restaurant at Stalybridge Celtic’s ground.

It has been transformed into a room with a capacity of 120 and is ideal for functions and a hub for local businesses.

Bower Fold Events is an arm of her Stalybridge business Works4U that helps young people with mental health issues and disabilities find employment.

And hospitality students from Works4U will be gaining practical experience at Bower Fold Events.

Though the business only recently launched, Wendy has been delighted with the interest and number of bookings already made.

The first event was a Fizz Fashion Show attended by 100 people and raising £1,190 for Stalybridge Celtic.

The local Business Network International will meet every Friday morning and they have had enquiries for weddings, christenings and birthdays.

Wendy, who is also Stalybridge Celtic’s recently appointed new chief executive, said: “There was a need in the area for a function room and we hope to have plugged it.

“The building was derelict but we have given it a new roof, internal ceiling, electrics and flooring.”

Carla Shaw will be events’ manager as three of Works4U’s 26-strong workforce will be based at Bower Fold. They are able to call on other staff as and when needed.

The sponsors’ lounge at Stalybridge Celtic has been revamped to become a venue room for funerals.

Bower Fold Events joins the Peacock Café, Out of the Woods and Raglands Farm in being arms of Works4U which is based on Ridge Hill. More information can be  found on Facebook at Bower Fold Events.
