Barrage of birdies is key to Chris’ victory in winter event

CHRIS Houfe shot eight birdies to win Winter League No 15 at Stamford Golf Club.

It helped Chris amass 44 points in the Stableford as he finished three points clear of runner-up Alex Martin and Phil Easter who both scored 41.

In earlier Winter League matches, Nicholas Rabbeth won No 11 with 48 points from second-placed David Rawlinson who had 46.

Winter League No 12 produced a win for Ryan Jones with 43 points, three ahead of second-placed Danny Jebb.

Ian Godfrey, with 48 points, won Winter League No 14 as he finished four points clear of second-placed Chris Pogson.

Winter League takes places over 19 weeks with the best eight scores to count.

Stamford is holding a junior golf camp over Easter and places are still available.

It takes place on Monday, April 15 and Thursday, April 18 between 9am-3.15pm each day.
The cost is £23 and lunch is included.

• ASHTON Golf Club’s Valentine’s Day Scramble was won by Nigel Kay, Paul Harrison, Eddie Sidebottom and Paul James with a score of 54.9.

Runners-up were Stuart Garner, Liam Jones, Mike Mannall and Darren Dykes with 55.3 while third place went to Neil Hallsworth, John Lewis, Amin Kiami and Paul Lavis.
