EVER walked through a shop and thought, ‘I can do better than that?’ Well, now is your chance to prove you can.
For Stalybridge shop Magpie’s Nest is throwing open its doors to people who create beautiful handmade gifts, arts and crafts.
The top floor of the store, which can be accessed from Melbourne Street and Armentieres Square, has been turned into an exhibition of 17 people’s wares.
Featuring handcrafted wooden gifts, jewellery, artworks, textiles and fragrances, all those ‘creatives’ showing off what they can do are local.
And owner Liz Hanley, whose business sells things like bags, purses, scarves and umbrellas from the likes of Radley, Kipling and Galleria as well as candles, homeware and bath and beauty products, believes it can be a hit.
And the shop plans to hold ‘Meet the Makers’ evenings in the future, to give people the opportunity to meet the people behind the creations. There will also be talks and demonstrations, as well as free refreshments.
Liz said: “We are hoping the event is received well as we have plans for more creative events through the year.
“Coming from Stalybridge, I know there is plenty of talent in the area when it comes to creating handmade products.
“So I thought, ‘Where better to show them off than a store right in the middle of the town?’
“There are some extremely impressive creations on show, that’s for sure.”
Magpie’s Nest has been a hit since opening up in other premises elsewhere on Armentieres Square.
Things expanded so much, it had to move into its current larger shop and things have not slowed down.
• You could visit the showcase by dropping into Magpie’s Nest at 30, Armentieres Square, Stalybridge.
It is open from 9am until 5.30pm from Monday to Saturday and 11am-3pm on Sundays.
