STALYBRIDGE-based charity Cancer Warriors has been honoured by Tameside Council.
Founder Derrick Evans was presented with a certificate of appreciation during a presentation at the mayor’s parlour in Dukinfield Town Hall.
Derrick and other members of Warriors’ team were invited to meet Mayor of Tameside Cllr Denise Ward in appreciation for the hard work Cancer Warriors’ volunteers perform in the local community.
They offer information and support to anyone affected by cancer, either directly or family.
The certificate of appreciation follows a recent lifetime achievement award Derrick received at the charity’s awards night.
Derrick was diagnosed with cancer in 2007 and has fought an ongoing battle.
He initially created Derrick’s Army to raise money for The Christie.
That evolved to become Cancer Warriors in 2014 and last year they opened a drop-in information and support centre on Melbourne Street, Stalybridge.
