STALYBRIDGE Celtic Juniors’ player Cameron Smith has signed for Liverpool aged eight.
Cameron, who lives in Dukinfield, has been with Juniors since starting with the reception group at the Saturday soccer school when he was only five.
From there he joined the Under-7s Whites and has played for them for the past two seasons.
Cameron’s mum Natalie Morris said: “It was an amazing day for Cameron signing for Liverpool.
There has been some inspiring stories from people who have done the journey that Cameron is starting.
“Whatever the end result we are so proud of how far he has come already.”
At his signing Cameron, a pupil at Broadbent Fold Primary, met a number current and past Liverpool players including right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.
His dad Aaron has been a popular face at Juniors, too, helping coach and volunteering on work and maintenance projects at the club’s soccer school base on Mossley Road.
Chairman Garry Pearce said: “All of us at Stalybridge Celtic Juniors wish Cameron well on his football journey.
“He has been a credit to the club and his family during his time with us and we can’t wait to see him continue learning and improving at a club with an excellent academy track record.”
Stalybridge Celtic Juniors’ soccer school is open every Saturday from 10.30am to noon and is open to players of all abilities.
