NEWLY promoted Stalybridge St Paul’s have made a steady start to life in division two of the Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League.
Back-to-back wins against Old Glossop and Hazel Grove has lifted Stalybridge to third place in the eight-club division.
It made up for the disappointment of failing to register a win in the first three matches, a rained off game against currently basement boys Buxworth, hefty defeat at home to Hadfield and rain-affected draw at Newton.
Notable batting performances have come from Richard Wright (49 v Newton) and James Brady (45 v Hazel Grove) with Rob Mallett also chipping in with 98 runs over the month.
The bowling department has particularly impressed with standout performances from Brady (4-33 v Hadfield), Ned Woodman (4-38 v Newton) and Adam Harwick (4-15 v Old Glossop), Mallett (4-22) and Saad Jelani (5-15) also blew away Hazel Grove for a total of only 45.
The second team won two and lost two of its games over the last month to sit sixth in the 12-club division five.
Tilak Bhojani (63 not out), Jordan Elliott (49) and Steve Monks (40) all impressed with the bat in the victory against Hazel Grove.
Best bowling stats came from Ned Woodman (5 for 20 vs Buxworth) and Ahmed Hayat (4 for 32 vs Hollingworth).
