ROSS Killock has become Stalybridge Celtic’s second summer signing to the delight of manager Simon Haworth.
The central defender is no stranger to Celtic, though, as he was at the club during the 2017-18 season.
But a massive cut to the wage bill in the summer of 2018 brought about the departure of Killock and other experienced players as he joined Scarborough.
Haworth said: “I am thrilled Ross is back as he has good experience. He has been used to a winning mentality at Scarborough and also playing in front of bigger crowds.
“I am hoping he can use those things to help those around him which in turn will help us.”
Killock joins Mark Lees who has signed from Ashton United on a permanent basis following a loan at the end of last season.
Haworth has also re-signed Scott Bakkor, Ross Dent and Greg Wilkinson and taken up an option the club had for Neil Kengni for the 2019-20 season.
Celtic’s manager added centre-back Chris Smalley, signed from Stockport County in January, will be returning, but not until mid-September through personal reasons due to the impending birth of his second child.
Haworth added he is still waiting to hear from several other players from last season who have been offered contracts.
Celtic’s manager added he will be operating with a smaller squad as he goes for quality over quantity.
Haworth, who will operate with the same budget as last season, explained: “The budget is similar to last season and I am looking to be creative.
“The budget will allow us to have a better 11 on the pitch and probably a squad of 12/13 players.
“We can’t carry a squad of 18-20 well paid players as we don’t have that size of budget.
“We will have a small, tight squad and then have young players from the academy to make up the numbers as and when they are needed.”
