IRISH eyes are smiling at the Roaches Lock where new owners Mike and Geraldine Duffy have already made their mark at the Mossley pub by bringing back the wow factor.
They have completed an extensive refurbishment of the Manchester Road hostelry, with Mike carrying out much of the work.
It has included a new bar and a restaurant along with a new kitchen from where dishes for a new a la carte menu will be prepared.
Mike and daughter Shauna are to run the Roaches Lock while Geraldine will continue at the Hare and Hounds, Luzley Road, where she has been for the last nine years.
Geraldine, a native of Belfast, admitted her homeland had an influence in the refurbishment while she is also keen to introduce live entertainment in the bar area.
She said: “I want to keep the traditional pub feel but we want to try and get the restaurant up and running in the evening.
“We have a new a la carte menu coming out on June 28 and it’s completely different from the Hare and Hounds.
“And it has a bit of an Irish twist – with white pudding, colcannon and champ mash featuring – and there’s a slight Irish theme in the bar.
“We’re also going to be serving fresh, double-filtered oysters, as well as drunken mussels.
“Damian, my chef at the Hare and Hounds, is going to come over and get this kitchen going. He’s had a massive input on the menu.
“Long-term customers have been fine with the changes we’ve brought in and others have come through the door and have been wowed, saying, ‘It so needed it, we’re looking forward to the new menu’.”
• Roaches Lock on Manchester Road will serve food from noon until 3pm and from 5pm until 9pm, with an early bird menu available from 5pm until 6.30pm.
The bar is open Monday-Thursday until 11.30pm and midnight on Friday and Saturday.
