BRADLEY’S Bakery may soon have a problem after scooping another award – where to store them all.
Owners Gillian and Mark Bradley found themselves among the country’s finest after winning the prize for being Greater Manchester’s best bakery at the recent inaugural National Bakery Awards.
And to show just how highly they are regarded, the winner of the North-West prize went on to be named overall winner.
“We were nominated for it by, we think, someone within the industry – either a supplier or another baker,” said Gillian.
“That makes us even happier as it shows what we do is being recognised by people who would know.
“Mark and I went down to London and we were among some real big hitters, names you would recognise from the high street, and the best thing was we were one of only two or three people who did pies that were recognised.
“It was a great honour to get an award there, especially as it was the first time the awards were ever held.
“Now the prize sits on the counter but we may soon be running out of space to put them all!”
Gillian and Mark were presented with their award by TV sports anchor Mark Durden-Smith on Tuesday, June 4.
Known locally as ‘The Home of the Best Pork Pie,’ the Ashton-based shop has been operating for more than 50 years.
And just being part of the list of people nominated was enough for Kings Road-based Gillian.
She added: “There were some major players there. When I started reading some of the names, I looked them up and some of them are really big indeed.
“We’re just a family-run business and when we were there, we got chatting to a couple of them.
“It was a really nice surprise to win the award. It was at BAFTA House on Piccadilly too, just being there was a great experience.”
