ANDREW Betts has been appointed Stalybridge Celtic’s new club secretary aged only 20.
The trainee accountant from Stalybridge succeeds Paul Carter, who has left to become secretary at Altrincham.
Andrew, who says he has fallen into the role, admitted the club has taken a risk to give somebody so young the job.
He said: “It is good to be involved on the football side and I have to work closely with the gaffer (Simon Haworth) with whom I work closely with.
“It is really busy at this time signing new players and I am learning something new every day.”
Andrew, a former pupil at St Peter’s RC Primary and West Hill High School, had previously run Celtic’s social media channels and edited the programme.
He says in the future he may be open to a career in football similar to Michael Beech, a former Celtic club secretary, who left to take a full-time secretarial role at Championship club Barnsley.
Andrew, who works for Ashton accountants Geoffrey Beech & Co,, has been following Celtic for a decade.
“I was brought up a Liverpool fan but, as we couldn’t get tickets to games, my dad took me to Celtic which is how it started,” he said.
