Copley student lands ball boy role

COPLEY Academy year nine student Chris Gillies will be in action at every Manchester United home match during the 2019-20 season.

Chris has been selected as a ball assistant, known in yesteryear as a ball boy, thanks to Copley’s partnership with the Manchester United Foundation.

“It is an opportunity of a lifetime that won’t come around again and exciting,” he said.

“There’s a lot of responsibility. You’ve got to be able to do it quickly so the game can carry on. I want to represent Copley to show that’s it’s the best school and we can get even better.”

Chris was chosen after an open application process for year nine where students had to submit a letter explaining why and how they could fulfil the role.

Manchester United Foundation hub development officer Matt Fejos was impressed with Chris’s professionalism and thorough approach to the process and believes we will represent both the school and the club well.
