Sewing the seeds of success in Stalybridge

SEWENDIPITY, a niche Stalybridge business, has reached its fourth birthday.

Sewendipity, which was set up by Sandra Whitfield, describes itself as a ‘wools, crafts and haberdashery’ business.

That is rather simplistic because the shop is an Aladdin’s cave where you can purchase anything from buttons and ribbons to feathers and stuffing for toys.

Sandra, who has had a personal interest in knitting and sewing since being a teenager, has been able to fulfil a dream by turning a hobby into a thriving business.

In the past four years Sewendipity has expanded to such an extent that Sandra moved next door to a shop that had cellar space.

That has enabled her to create a workshop and handicrafts section for local, talented crafters to display and sell their creations.

Sandra currently offers one-to-one knitting and crocheting classes each Wednesday. She teaches knitting while daughter Claire is the crocheting expert. She is also hoping to expand by offering group classes in the New Year.

The pair are keen to pass on their skills and Sandra added knitting and crocheting are therapeutic – calming and reduces stress.

Anybody interested in signing up for courses, whether as an individual or as part of a group, or wanting further information, can contact Sandra on 0161 465 6820.
