Police launch appeal following burglary at M and S in Ashton

Police are appealing for information following a burglary that took place in Ashton-under-Lyne.

At around 5.30pm on Saturday 11 January 2020 a man entered the M&S store on Lord Sheldon Way.

He approached a counter in the food section of the store and leant over and stole a large sum of money from the till before fleeing.

Police have released a CCTV image of a man officers want to speak to in connection with the offence.

In addition to the image, the man is described as having spoken with a deep voice in a strong Eastern European-like accent.

PC Sultan of GMP’s Tameside District said: “No-one was injured during this incident, but the cashier concerned was left shaken.

“The store was busy at the time so we believe that there are people who may recognise the man and can assist our enquiries.”

Information can be given to police by calling 0161 856 9242 quoting incident number 2198 of 11/01/2020.

Alternatively, information can be passed on to the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
